Microsoft Fabric
What is Fabric?
End-to-end analytics platform encompasses data movement, processing, ingestion, transformation, real-time event routing, and report building. Integrated, user-friendly platform that simplifies your analytics requirements.
Microsoft Fabric integrates seven separate components into a cohesive stack. AI capabilities are seamlessly embedded within Fabric, using Azure AI Studio and Copilot.
Did You Know?
Microsoft announced in Q2 wave release, beginning in May 2025 Power BI workspaces licensed with Embedded Capacity, P1 and P2 SKUs will be automatically enabled and licensed to use the full Fabric Stack.
Data Factory
Use case:
Enables self-service data ingest and automation using low-code capabilities of Power Query Online, build Gen2 dataflows within the Fabric SaaS and move data across Power Platform.
There are two primary features for Data Factory in Microsoft Fabric:
Dataflows
Enable you to leverage more than 300 transformations in the dataflows designer, letting you transform data easier and with more flexibility than any other tool including smart AI-based data transformations.
Data pipelines
Enable you to leverage the out-of-the-box, automation-rich data capabilities to compose flexible data workflows that meet your enterprise needs.
Microsoft Fabric | Data Factory
Use case:
Consolidate all your data with Azure Data Factory, a fully managed, serverless data integration service. Visually integrate data sources with more than 90 built-in, maintenance-free connectors at no added cost. Easily construct extract, transform, and load (ETL) and extract, load, and transform (ELT) processes code-free in an intuitive environment or write your own code. Then deliver integrated data to Azure Synapse Analytics to unlock business insights.
From your Fabric workspace you can:
- Data Factory provides a data integration and transformation layer that works across your digital transformation initiatives.
- Citizen integrators and data engineers are empowered to drive business and IT-led analytics/BI.
- Prepare data, construct ETL and ELT processes, and orchestrate and monitor pipelines code-free. The managed Apache Sparkâ„¢ service takes care of code generation and maintenance.
- Transform faster with intelligent intent-driven mapping that automates copy activities.

What is a Microsoft Apache Spark?
Apache Spark is an open-source distributed computing system designed for big data processing and analytics. It is known for its speed, scalability, and ease of use in handling massive datasets across multiple machines.
Microsoft integrates Apache Spark into its ecosystem primarily through Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Databricks.
Copilot Key Features

Data Engineering and Data Science + Copilot
- Generate code for chart creation, filtering data, applying transformations, machine learning models.
- Chat-magics engine, generative AI enables instant query and code generation for: dataframe descriptions, commenting, debugging, and privacy controls in Fabric Notebooks.
Real-Time Intelligence and Hub + Copilot
- Copilot removes adoption barriers for citizen data scientists. By harnessing OpenAI’s advanced language understanding, this feature allows you to submit business questions in a familiar, natural language format, which are then converted into KQL queries.
Data Factory + Copilot
- Generate new transformation steps for an existing query.
- Provide a summary of the query and the applied steps.
- Generate a new query that may include sample data or a reference to an existing query.
Data Warehouse + Copilot
- Natural Language to SQL: Ask Copilot to generate SQL queries using simple natural language questions.
- Code completion: Enhance your coding efficiency with AI-powered code completions.
- Quick actions: Quickly fix and explain SQL queries with readily available actions.
- Intelligent Insights: Receive smart suggestions and insights based on your warehouse schema and metadata.
